Lady Antebellum Postpones Tour Until 2014

Lady Antebellum

Lady Antebellum

Lady Antebellum‘s Take Me Downtown Tour, featuring Kip Moore and Kacey Musgraves, has been postponed until early 2014. Via a post on the Lady Antebellum website, the trio broke the news to fans, saying that pushing the tour back to 2014 would fit better with the upcoming release of the deluxe version of their album Golden in November. The first show of the tour leg is now scheduled for Jan. 10 in Peoria, Ill.
“To accommodate the new release and in order to give you guys the best show possible, we’ve had to move things around on our tour schedule,” the trio said. “The 1st leg of the Take Me Downtown Tour with Kip and Kacey will now kick off on Jan. 10th in Peoria, IL. We hope these changes aren’t too much trouble for you, and that we’ll get to see you in one of the more than 60 cities the tour will hit next year. Check back here for more info on the rescheduled dates…we’ll be posting updates frequently and be in touch a lot over the next few weeks. We are sorry for the inconvenience, we love you guys, and we’re excited to see you on the road!”
The first leg of the tour will run through the summer of 2014; shows have been scheduled through May 31, though several shows do not have confirmed dates. The tour was originally slated to begin on Nov. 8 in Southaven, Miss.

Hunter Hayes gave the industry a glimpse at the results of a dream nearly 18 years in the making when he offered a preview of his headlining show for the CMT On Tour: Hunter Hayes’ Let’s Be Crazy Tour on Monday (Oct. 7). The tour begins with a show in Knoxville, Tenn. on Oct. 10 with Ashley Monroe.
At 22, this multi-talented singer, songwriter, producer and musician (Hayes played every instrument on his self-titled debut Atlantic Records album) has earned three No. 1 Country singles and the title of CMA New Artist of the Year and a Teen Choice Award for Male Country artist. The afternoon kicked off with Hayes adding another honor to his list; a platinum-selling album for his self-titled deluxe edition release, Encore. Members of Warner Music Nashville staff and various industry members gathered at the James K. Polk Theater to celebrate. Warner Music Nashville President and CEO John Esposito commented, “Hunter is one of only four Country artists in the past five years to have a platinum-selling debut album.”
Prominent reasons that he has caught the ears of fans young and old is his obvious passion—some might say obsession—with music, his musical prowess, and his seemingly limitless energy. Both were equally on display as he took industry members through a 90-minute set.
“For The Love of Music,” scrawled in chalk writing, rolled across a video screen above the stage as Hayes kicked off his set with two lively love songs, “A Thing About You” and “Can’t Say Love.” The background glowed with a background reminiscent of a Pac-Man arcade game, accented with spotlights that highlighted members of his backing band. The chalk writing continued throughout the stage dressing, from the stage ramps to the drum kit to Hayes’ piano, all covered with lyrics written in chalk.
“I’m actually a shy person,” Hayes told the audience. “Onstage is where I’m most comfortable.” The latter was clear, given his energetic, confident performance.
The lighting throughout the concert is thoughtful; red lights blaze for his debut single “Storm Warning,” then turn somber shades of purple and blue (accompanied by bubbles rather than rain) for Hayes’ bluesy guitar-driven take on “Rainy Season.” The soulful ballad allowed Hayes’ R&B-influenced vocals to command the audience’s attention, drawing loud applause.

“We’ve been working on the show for quite some time and it’s nice to play it for somebody. This is our way of saying thanks, by playing music and making noise,” said Hayes. He stayed center stage for “Somebody’s Heartbreak,” crunching out guitar riffs while stage lights were lit in an array of colors.
His musicianship got a special spotlight when he took to a side stage for an acoustic take on “Only If You Told Me To.” Using a loop and his guitar as a percussion instrument, Hayes built the song layer upon layer, even adding “background vocals” by singing into the sound hole on his trusty axe.
Calling it “the most vulnerable song I’ve ever done,” and “my awkward singles anthem,” Hayes brought the full band back for “Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me,” which features Jason Mraz. Though singer-songwriter Mraz wasn’t present, his voice was featured in the song. As Hayes performed, Mraz’s image was featured via video, as live footage of Hayes performing was layered on top of Mraz’s video performance, to interesting effect.
Hayes perhaps saved the best for last, as he launched into “Loved You More Than I Should,” an angst-filled Country-rock number. Backed by appropriate red and black hues and artsy video imagery, Hayes ripped through a series of rock guitar progressions. “That’s for all the angry people,” Hayes quipped.
He brought a quieter energy to the elegant rendition of “Where We Left Off,” the track Hayes contributed to the movie Act of Valor. With Hayes commanding the piano, spotlights onstage glowed red and blue, while lasers beamed white lights to the right and left, accentuating a video image of an American flag.
He followed the sentimental, patriotic theme with his hit ballad, “Wanted.” Giving a nod to his career thus far, “Better Than This” was his musical thank you to fans and the industry. Vintage footage of Hayes reminded listeners that though Hayes is barely in his 20s, he’s been performing live and dreaming of this career for most of his life. His easygoing confidence in a live setting is hard-earned, having performed with Hank Williams, Jr. and on national television by age 5.
“Let’s keep making noise and getting crazier and crazier,” said Hayes before concluding with his signature hit “I Want Crazy.” Judging from his substantial success thus far, it seems his career only set to get crazier.

Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia Line have seen a hectic past year, as the duo’s fame has skyrocketed on the success of singles including “Cruise,” “Shine On” and “‘Round Here.” Thanks to the irresistible blend of rock, country and hip-hop that permeates their sound, along with endless youthful energy, Hubbard and Kelley have risen from opening slots on Taylor Swift‘s RED Tour and Luke Bryan‘s Dirt Road Diaries Tour. Soon, just over a year since they scored their recording contract with Big Machine Label Group, they will add a new title to their musical resume: headliners.
The duo welcomed several hundred Nashville music industry members, as well as a select group of fans, to get an early look at the Here’s To The Good Times Tour, which will launch Oct. 3 in Brookings, S.D. The 32-city tour has already completely sold out at each tour stop. Big Machine Label Group’s Scott Borchetta and Jimmy Harnen welcomed the crowd to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Tuesday (Oct. 1).
What better way to start a party than with some stellar sales accomplishments? Borchetta and Harnen feted the duo with several accolades. Florida Georgia Line’s “Round Here” has been certified gold by the RIAA. Their debut album, Here’s To the Good Times, has earned platinum certification for more than 1 million units sold; their debut single “Cruise” has earned the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts since its inception in 1944.
Borchetta also announced that Florida Georgia Line’s debut album will get the deluxe repackage treatment, to include five additional songs. Here’s To The Good Times…This Is How We Roll will bow on Nov. 25. “It’s tough when we release an album every year, or year and a half, because we love to write songs,” said Hubbard. “This way we can get some new music out to you.”

“We are ready to party our faces off with this tour,” said Hubbard. That means that though they just purchased a home in Nashville from their income, they won’t be spending a considerable amount of time there just yet.
They certainly made their party ambitions clear from the beginning with the hip-hop infused “Itz Just What We Do,” followed by “Tip It Back.” The duo’s non-stop touring over their past five years has paid off; few artists as relatively early into their careers as this duo are as energetic and comfortable commanding the audience’s attention.
The smoke, lights, and video throughout the performance were befitting a high-end production. Video screen images of license plates outfitted with song lyrics on “Round Here,” gave a subtle nod to fans in every state. “Here’s To The Good Times” is as poignant as it is party anthem, thanks to a photo retrospective of highlights from the duo’s early days, following the rise (so far) of their career. Images included concert photos, their signing with Big Machine Label Group, a stop at NBC studios, childhood photos, prom photos, their first award show experience, a snapshot with tour mate Taylor Swift, and even photos of the duo getting inked.
Current single “Stay” slowed down the pace momentarily, bathing the audience in blue and red lights and allowing the duo’s harmonies to be highlighted as an emotionally-charged video played in the background. From there the audience partied on with “Shine On” (with appropriately sunny yellow light streaming through the rehearsal space) and ending with the duo’s signature breakout hit “Cruise.”
As they embark on their first headlining tour, the duo is also nominated for their first Country Music Association awards, including Vocal Duo of the Year; New Artist of the Year; Single of the Year for “Cruise;” and Musical Event of the Year with Nelly for the remix of “Cruise.”

Southern Ground Expands Nashville Festivities

Zac Brown Band performs at Nashville’s 2013 Southern Ground Festival.

Zac Brown’s Southern Ground Music and Food Festival took over Nashville’s Lawn at Riverfront Park last weekend (Sept. 27-28) for a two-day extravaganza featuring performances from Kenny Rogers, Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson & Family, Kacey Musgraves, Eli Young Band, Grace Potter, John Fogerty, Lennon & Maisy and their parents The Stellas, Jason Mraz, Amos Lee and many more.
Zac Brown Band’s (ZBB) familiar hits including “Keep Me In Mind,” “Colder Weather,” “Goodbye In Her Eyes,” “No Hurry,” and “Free” indulged guests. A real treat for patrons were last-minute performance announcements from 2013 CMHoF inductee Kenny Rogers (“Just Dropped In – To See What Condition My Condition Was In,” “The Gambler”) on Friday, and 1993 CMHoF inductee Willie Nelson the following day.

Nelson’s Saturday set extended 20-minutes beyond the schedule, while the legend played through his broken shoulder. Tunes included self-penned cuts (“Crazy,” “Good Hearted Woman”), covers (“Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys,” “Always On My Mind,” “Georgia On My Mind”), signature hits (“On The Road Again,” “Whiskey River” “Angel Flying Too Close To the Ground”), recent duets (“Beer For My Horses,” “Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die”) and gospel tunes (“Circle Be Unbroken/I’ll Fly Away,” “I Saw The Light”).
Musgraves gave a bold performance on the Landshark satellite stage just 48 hours prior to boarding an airplane to begin her European tour. The six-time CMA Award nominee’s show featured just one cover, which she wrote (“Mama’s Broken Heart”) in addition to her own album cuts including “Stupid,” “Silver Lining” and debut single “Merry Go ‘Round.” Musgraves additionally performed her self-proclaimed latest single, “Follow Your Arrow,” which was again featured on the main stage with ZBB later that evening.
Chesney and Fogerty performed a handful of titles with the ZBB on Friday and Saturday night, respectively. Chesney offered vocals on “Knee Deep” and “Running Down A Dream.” Fogerty’s performance wrapped Saturday guests with songs “Lookin’ Out My Back Door,” “Centerfield” and “Bad Moon Rising,” which was featured as a duet on Fogerty’s Wrote A Song For Everyone album with the ZBB.
Southern Ground’s food and drink offerings also took center stage. Organizers partitioned the park’s space even more efficiently than last year’s inaugural Nashville event, to include an expanded food court complete with a ferris wheel for viewing perspective. Vendors included Margot/Marche, Watermark, Peg Leg Porker, among others, while over eight food trucks including Jeni’s ice cream and the Grilled Cheeserie lined the walkway to the Landshark satellite stage. The Listening Room Cafe was also incorporated into this year’s events.

VIP tents offered particular patrons an unlimited beverage and food throughout both evenings, including oyster po’ boy, rib eye with corn and okra, shrimp and grits, ribs, wings, jambalaya, cornbread, beans and rice. Dessert included banana pudding, brownies and individualized pie selections. Exclusive stage boxes, which maintained a wait list due to the immediate sell-out, treated patrons to even more exclusive delicacies from ZBB’s personal chef, Rusty Hamlin.
Charleston, S.C. will host the festival Oct. 19-20.
