Shania Twain Hints at New Tour

shania111Since 2012 Shania Twain‘s fans have traveled to her during her Shania…Still The One residency at Las Vegas’ Caesar’s Palace. With her commitment with Caesar’s Palace set to run out in July, the entertainer says she is considering bringing her show to the fans. According to an interview with the Calgary Herald, the Canada native says that she and her team are “looking at some dates already, probably in the spring.” Twain hints that an announcement could come after her commitment to Caesars ends, and after another event in P.E.I. in August. The singer’s shows this week, July 9-10, at the Calgary Stampede also signal her return to the stage.
“I think I’m going to do more,” she says. “I guess it’s just something I’m enjoying more now than I have in a long time. Vegas has been a really good transition for me to get back onstage again, and I guess I’m enjoying it. So why not do more?”
Twain says that touring will not necessarily coincide with a new album project, though she says she has plans to return to the studio this year.
“It’s my priority this year and I will be in the studio as soon as I can get in, get my ducks in a row—I’m working on it all the time right now,” she says. “I’ve been writing for it for a long time now, I’ve got lots of things so it’s really about putting the puzzle together now.”

Bandsintown Launches Tour Management App

Bandsintown_logo_300dpi1Bandsintown has introduced its first mobile application for artists and managers, Bandsintown Manager. The app will allow touring artists, music managers and digital marketers to control touring information via their mobile devices.
Bandsintown Manager pushes event dates to Facebook, Twitter, Google YouTube, and artist websites. Tour date information is also pushed to concert discovery app Bandsintown, as well as partners including Shazam, Nokia MixRadio, SoundHound, DeliRadio, Squarespace, and others.
In the event of a venue or tour date change, artists or managers can directly message fans who have RSVP’d to their show. The app also aggregates all concert photos and videos of a show posted by fans on BandsinTown and Instagram, which artists can then browse and repost on Facebook or Twitter to increase engagement.
“Our goal has always been to connect artists and fans so they never miss a show” said Julien Mitelberg, Bandsintown CEO. “By introducing a mobile app built exclusively for artists, we enable both major and emerging acts to better promote their tours and for the first time to communicate directly with our 11 million registered users, so concert-goers get the most out of the live music experience—before, during and after the event.”

Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Red tour has set the all-time record for highest grossing single tour by a Country artist. According to Billboard Boxscore, the 15-month outing grossed $150 million, besting the record set by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s Soul2Soul tour during 2006 and 2007, which made $141 million.
The Red tour sold over 1.7 million tickets and included 86 concerts, 15 of which were at stadiums.
Swift’s four continent, 12 country extravaganza began on March 13, 2013. The first leg ran for six months in North America and closed with a three-show stand in Nashville in September. Swift wrapped 2013 with concerts in Australia and New Zealand. She traveled to Europe and Asia in 2014. The tour closed June 12 with a performance in Singapore.

IEBA’s Hall of Fame honors elite live entertainment industry professionals.
Over the course of four decades, The Doobie Brothers have sold more than 48 million albums, won four GRAMMY Awards and built an extremely loyal fanbase. Their relationship with Nashville continues this fall when some of country music’s top stars join them on their forthcoming Sony Music Nashville collaboration album. The record, full of their hits, also reunites them with longtime Doobie Brother Michael McDonald.

“The IEBA Hall of Fame induction is an honor in itself,” Cohn said. “I can’t tell you how much more it means to be inducted simultaneously with the band. We have accomplished so much together and will continue to achieve even more in the future. We have a brotherhood that I am proud of, and—even after 44 years together—I think some of the most exciting times are just around the corner.”

Jim Halsey

Jim Halsey

Jim Halsey founded The Jim Halsey Company talent agency in 1951. His clients included Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, The Oak Ridge Boys, Roy Clark, and many others. The Jim Halsey Company was acquired by the William Morris Agency in 1990, but Halsey remains active in the industry. As an author and educator, he launched The Jim Halsey Institute of Music and Entertainment Business, an undergraduate music business program at Independence Community College in Independence, Kan.
Carl and Margaret Klein created Klein’s Attractions in 1930. For more than 80 years and three generations, Klein’s has provided entertainment for state and county fairs, expositions, festivals, colleges, casinos, community and corporate events throughout the United States. Just as Carl and Margaret passed their love of the business onto their daughter Peggy and her husband Bob Kaltenbach, Peggy and Bob passed it to their son R.J. and his wife Patty. After Bob’s death in 1993, R.J. took the reigns as the company’s president and Peggy, though semi-retired, continues to play an active role in day-to-day operations.
Don Romeo started Romeo Entertainment Group, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary, in 1954. He later joined with Hap Peebles in forming IEBA. The Don Romeo Agency steadily grew as it was passed down to Bob, Don’s son. Today, as Romeo Entertainment Group, its client list boasts over 100 names including Country Jam, North Dakota State Fair, Bands in the Backyard, Evergreen State Fair, Grand Falls Casino Resort, and Riverside Casino and Golf Resort. The company remains in the family: Don’s daughter Fran Romeo is President, and grandchildren Michelle and R.J. Romeo are Agent and General Counsel, respectively. Michelle also serves on IEBA’s Board of Directors.

The That’s My Kind of Night Tour continues through the fall with three more stadium dates planned this summer: Aug. 10 in Boston at Gillette Stadium, Aug. 15 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, and Aug. 31 in Chicago at Soldier Field.

Music Row Veteran Don Light Passes

Don Light

Don Light

Revered Music Row veteran Don Light died on June 17, leaving behind a wide-ranging legacy comprised of establishing the first Gospel music booking agency, co-founding the Gospel Music Association, and discovering Jimmy Buffett.
The Tennessee native’s entree into the music business came as a drummer on the Grand Ole Opry. Next, he helped lead Billboard’s Nashville outpost.
He noticed a need for a Gospel booking agency and opened Don Light Talent in 1965, representing groups including the Happy Goodman Family and The Oak Ridge Boys. He eventually signed the Chuck Wagon Gang, Governor Jimmie Davis, The Florida Boys, the Lewis Family, the Rex Nelon Singers, the Cathedral Quartet, the Singing Rambos, Wendy Bagwell & the Sunliters, and the Thrasher Brothers.
In the ’70s Light added record producer and artist manager to his multi-faceted repertoire, producing more than 50 albums and discovering and managing a diverse roster of artists such as Buffet, the Oaks, Delbert McClinton, Keith Whitley, Steve Wariner, Marty Stuart and Mark Collie.
Eventually he co-founded the Gospel Music Association, and was very active with the GMA, CMA, Recording Academy, IBMA and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Fittingly, his work led to induction in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame.
His longtime clients The Steep Canyon Rangers shared this rememberance with MusicRow:

We were approached backstage at Graves Mountain Bluegrass Festival in June of 2004 by a slender, well dressed gray haired man named Don Light. He watched as we were warming up for our set and mentioned that he would be interested in talking to us about becoming our manager. We had not even played our show, but he said he heard a sound that he liked and thought he could help us. A few weeks later we were in Nashville and had a meeting with Don Light in his Music Row office (formerly Chet Atkins’ office) and a relationship between Don Light—he only liked to be referred to by his first and last name, which he made very clear early on—and Steep Canyon Rangers was formed. Over the next seven and a half years we were proud to have Don Light Talent, with Julie Pennell, represent our group. The more we grew to know Don Light, the more we understood stood why his reputation in Nashville was impeccable. We loved his connection to old Nashville and his belief in our band was instrumental to us. The 2006 IBMA Emerging Artist award and our relationship with the Grand Ole Opry were two accomplishments among the many we achieved through Don Light. Being bluegrassers, we could sit in his office and hear stories about Lester Flatt and Keith Whitley all day! Don Light was full of great advice, one liners, striking smiles, but he was also a careful and thoughtful listener. His interest in bluegrass later in his career was a blessing for us and other groups who were fortunate to benefit from his experience and wisdom. We’re grateful to have known and worked with Don Light and will try to someday justify his belief that we “could be important.” He was that and more to us.
