Singer/songwriter Niko Moon has signed with SESAC for representation. Moon, a Texas native who often writes with artist/writer Zac Brown, dropped by SESAC’s Nashville head offices recently to visit and celebrate.

Silvercreek Records Signs The Lindsey Cardinale Band

Former American Idol contestant Lindsey Cardinale has inked a recording deal with Nashville’s Silvercreek Records. The Lindsey Cardinale Band (LCB). Cardinale’s deal with Silvercreek Records includes the addition of two new band members: Stafond Seago (rhythm guitar), who is president of Silvercreek Records, and Jonathan Nuccio (drums). They join Cardinale’s existing musicians Augie King (bass) and Kaleb Payne (lead guitar).

“I’m thrilled to be working with Lindsey,” said Seago, who is also the singer’s new manager. “She’s an amazing talent with a good fan base. I’m confident her popularity will take off, after she finishes her album later this year.”

Fourteen of Nashville’s top tunesmiths were honored Tuesday (Feb. 3) with the CMA Triple Play Awards during the sixth annual CMA Songwriters Luncheon, held at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works.

These writers each penned at least three songs which reached No. 1 within a 12-month period. The songwriters and songs honored during the event include (in alphabetical order):

“It’s an honor to host this event that shines the light on songwriters,” said Troy Tomlinson, former CMA Chairman of the Board and President and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Nashville. “Songwriters are the foundation of country music and today we get to honor their creative contributions.”

“Songwriters touch lives with their craft,” said Sarah Trahern, CMA Chief Executive Officer. “It is their words and melodies and stories that connect with the millions of fans of country music. I want to congratulate all of the Triple Play Award winners for their amazing accomplishments.”

Also in attendance were hit tunesmiths from ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, as well as songwriter members of CMA and representatives of some of the most successful publishers in Music City.

Black River Rages On With New Signing

VP of Black River Publishing Celia Froehlig today (Feb. 2) announced the signing of Josh Okeefe to the company. “Josh is a fantastic writer, artist and producer; one of the rare talents we publishers are always on the lookout for,” said Froehlig. “We are so happy to welcome him to the BRE family.”

Okeefe grew up in Derby, England and attended Brighton Institute of Modern Music in the UK. Following the advice of his academic directors, Okeefe left for Nashville at the age of 19.

“Black River was a dream,” said Okeefe, “and still is a dream.”

The announcement of Okeefe’s signing comes on the heels of Black River Entertainment’s CEO Gordon Kerr’s announcement that Froehlig renewed her contract with Black River Publishing.

Nashville-based Pop Up Music has signed a new singer-songwriter to its roster for publishing and artist development. Covington, Ohio native Clark Manson released his debut album in 2013.

Since opening in Nashville in September 2014 as the offshoot of Jingle Punks, Pop Up Music has been led by Vice President of Artist Management & Development Pete Olson and Vice President of Publishing and Artist Development Liz O’Sullivan. The firm itself is anchored creatively by Jingle Punks CEO Jingle Jared (Jared Gutstadt), who has written for artists such as Dierks Bentley, Chiddy Bang and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

NMPA Names VP of Industry Relations, Government Affairs

The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) has named Amelia Wang Vice President of Industry Relations and Government Affairs. Starting today (Feb. 2), Wang will interact with Capitol Hill and federal agencies, advancing NMPA’s legislative and regulatory policy goals. She will also manage outreach to the music publishing and songwriting industry.

“Amelia’s extensive experience on Capitol Hill, and specifically in the copyright space, will make her an incredible advocate for songwriters and music publishers,” said David Israelite, President and CEO of NMPA. “Her leadership on the Creative Rights Caucus and in multiple Congressional offices has given her a great appreciation for the challenges faced by those in our industry and we’re excited to have her championing their efforts.”

Prior to joining NMPA, Wang was chief of staff to Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-Calif.) for five years and previously worked for Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.). While working for Chu, she spearheaded the creation of the Congressional Creative Rights Caucus, a 55 member bi-partisan group focused on strengthening copyright protections and fighting to achieve fair compensation to creators for their work.

peermusic, the world’s largest independent music publisher, has announced the promotion of Tim Cohan to the position of Senior Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs in California.

In addition to overseeing all legal and corporate matters for peermusic’s U.S. companies, Cohan serves as counsel to peermusic’s Chairman and CEO, Ralph Peer, II and heads all global negotiations with respect to the firm’s digital and online agreements. Cohan is also an active representative of peermusic in various industry associations and committees.

“Tim’s guidance and expertise on all of the firm’s legal matters is invaluable to the success of the U.S. companies. He is an essential and valued member of our executive team,” said Kathy Spanberger, peermusic President and COO.

Peer added, “In this position Tim will assume new responsibilities for our increasingly important international licensing framework. His insight and global perspective are an integral part of peermusic’s continuing expansion and outreach worldwide.”

Cohan has been in-house counsel for the firm since 2011 when he moved to Los Angeles, holding the previous position of Vice President. Cohan rose through the ranks at peermusic after joining the firm as a legal assistant in the late 1990’s. He is a member of the New York State Bar and the California State Bar, speaks fluent French, and is a trained chef.

The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) and the Country Music Association (CMA) presented two songwriter rounds on Wednesday, Jan. 28 and Thursday, Jan. 29 at the Sundance ASCAP Music Cafe in Park City, Utah. Borman Entertainment Moves To New Nashville Location

The Nashville office of Gold Mountain Entertainment has signed band Front Country to their roster. They join Gold Mountain Nashville’s roster, which includes Ronnie Milsap, Nanci Griffith, The Crickets, Todd Snider, Hard Working Americans, Jeff Austin, Great American Taxi and Jason D. Williams.

Front Country formed in 2011, and includes Adam Roszkiewicz, Jacob Groopman, Jordan Klein, Leif Karlstrom, Melody Walker, and Zach Sharpe. The group recently released the project Sake of the Sound, and will begin their national and international tour in February 2015.

 

AIMP Panel is ‘All About That Bass’

AIMP LogoThe Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP) Nashville announces its first panel of 2015 to be held Feb. 18 at the ASCAP’s Connie Bradley Board Room from 11:30am-1:30pm.  A case study of Meghan Trainor and the song “All About That Bass,” publishers Carla Wallace and Kerry O’Neil of Big Yellow Dog Music will talk about how the song became a hit, its successes and how this translates into publishing.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has announced the talented unsigned songwriters that will make up the ASCAP Guidance from Publishers for Songwriters (GPS) Project Class of 2015.

Now in its fifth year, the GPS Project aims to display unsigned writers for our publishing community. Throughout the project, songwriters are paired with publishers for one meeting a month along with a follow-up for critiquing and networking. Additional special activities will include a songwriters round, networking events and guidance from attorneys and other industry influentials.

“We have to remain focused on writer development, not just at ASCAP, but as a music community,” commented ASCAP Senior Creative Director LeAnn Phelan. “​GPS gives deserving young writers an opportunity to learn from the best publishers in the world. ​​It’s really that simple. The publishers do an incredible job and I’m grateful for their participation.”

The 2015 ASCAP GPS Project kicked off in January and will continue throughout the year.

Craig Campbell Signs With Magic Mustang Music For Publishing

Singer-songwriter Craig Campbell has signed to Magic Mustang Music’s publishing roster. This follows Campbell’s signing with BBR Music Group’s label imprint, Red Bow Records, last month.

“I have known Craig for a while and have always been impressed by his talent,” said Juli Newton-Griffith, VP of Publishing for Magic Mustang Music. “To have him as part of our team is beyond exciting. We are ready to hit the ground running!”

Campbell, a SESAC songwriter, recently notched a co-writing credit for “All American Kid,” featured on Garth Brooks’ album Man Against Machine. Campbell also co-penned half of the songs on his 2013 sophomore effort, Never Regret, as well as the majority of the tunes on his self-titled 2011 debut album, including his Top 15 hit “Family Man.”

“I’m super excited to join the Magic Mustang roster,” said Campbell. “Some of my favorite songs I’ve written have been with writers Rob Hatch and Justin Wilson, and now to be a part of that family is a pretty big deal to me. I’ve always admired what Juli and the Magic Mustang team do in the publishing world and I am so looking forward to what is ahead.”
