Tin Pan South Adds Two Shows
The 21st Annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival has added two shows at the popular 3rd & Lindsley venue, aptly titled “From Texas to Tennessee” and “Celebrating the Music of ABC’s ‘Nashville'” on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. The addition of the new shows brings the total number of venues to 10, promising the best songwriters the world has to offer.
“From Texas To Tennessee”will kick off at 6:00 pm, and will feature Wade Bowen, Radney Foster, Jon Randall and Bruce Robison for a celebration of the bond between the Lone Star and Volunteer states. Foster (of Foster & Lloyd and such solo hits as “I’m In,” “Raining On Sunday,” “Just Call Me Lonesome,” “Nobody Wins”), is joined by fellow Texans Bowen (“Don’t Break My Heart Again,” “God Bless This Town,” “Try Not To Listen,” “When It All Goes Down”), Randall (“Am I The Only One,” “Drink On It,” “Whiskey Lullaby,” “She’s So California”) and Robison (“Travelin’ Soldier,” “Angry All the Time,” “Wrapped”).
“Celebrating the Music of ABC’s ‘Nashville'” will include Colin Linden, Buddy Miller and other special guests at 9:00 pm. Two of Nashville’s multi-talented musician/producers, Linden and Miller, are involved in the successful new drama, working with the cast and the musical arrangements to generate stellar results that support the events happening on the screen. Set against a backdrop of the city’s music industry, a large part of that success is due in part to the original songs, written mostly by Nashville songwriters and performed by the show’s cast members. The show’s soundtrack was released by Big Machine Records.
Tin Pan South Fast Access Passes are sold out, but individual admission is available for both 3rd & Lindsley shows for $12.00 cash at the door on a first come, first served basis.

The open-to-the-public conference brings Hollywood’s top writers, producers, directors, actors, managers, agents and other studio executives to Nashville to provide aspiring screenwriters, songwriters and other individuals interested in the world of film, TV and music the opportunity to network, learn and explore the inner-workings of Hollywood.

After putting the finishing touches on the gothic, supernatural musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County (Hear Music/Concord Music Group), co-conspirators Stephen King, John Mellencamp and T Bone Burnett have set June 4, 2013 as the project’s new release date. The album features Kris Kristofferson, Ryan Bingham, Sheryl Crow, Rosanne Cash, Mellencamp, Dave Alvin, Phil Alvin and others.

The Gospel Music Association‘s four-day program, IMMERSE, which provides training and mentoring for developing artists and songwriters, has revealed this year’s first round of artists and industry executives who will mentor this year’s attendees. Brandon Heath, Tommy Walker, Plumb, Jennie Lee Riddle, Steve Taylor, Montell Jordan, Joel Lindsey, Michael Farren, Brett Manning, Steve Hindalong, Carl Cartee, Michael Boggs and Tony Woods will be involved along with representatives from Capitol Christian Group, True Artist Management and Lillenas Publishing.
The sales world exploded this week as Memphis-born Justin Timberlake made registers ring like out of control pinball machines while amassing a lofty 968k album units (47 percent digital). The accomplished musician, actor, comic and more also rang up an additional 85k units of the new album’s “Suit & Tie” track which now has an RTD of over 1.5 million. JT sales expectations kept rising throughout the week like Tennessee temps in late Spring. But Timberlake wasn’t the only story in this week’s SoundScan tea leaves. Something unexpected happened closer to home.
Kacey Musgraves debuted at No. 1 on the country Current album’s list scanning over 43k units. (No. 2 on the Top 200). And her digital album sales were extremely high—58 percent, showing strong younger demo support.

Unfortunately, the tracks picture is somewhat less rosy. All genre digital track sales are down YTD a full 2 percent. Again country fans are helping to offset track losses and are actually ahead 4.7 percent YTD.
