Leadership Music Now Accepting Class of 2018 Applications

Leadership Music is now accepting applications for its Class of 2018. The organization has made some changes to the application process, upping the period for applying by one month. The eight-month, Nashville-based program begins in October and is designed to expose participants to every phase of the music industry and build channels of communication between established leaders, while exploring the challenges facing the music industry. Leadership Music will accept applications online through Feb. 28.

Chosen participants attend an initial orientation and alumni welcome reception in September, an Opening Retreat in October, followed by six all-day sessions once a month, ending in May with graduation at Closing Retreat. For the second year, three program days will be held on Tuesday and three on Friday. One-time tuition for the program is $1,000. Application forms, program dates, policies and FAQ’s are available at leadershipmusic.org/apply.

“We continue to experience an increase in applications to the Leadership Music program in record numbers, and we are gratified at the level of interest,” said Debbie Schwartz Linn, Executive Director. “So many factors enter into selecting the next, as we say in Leadership Music, ‘best class ever.’ Ideally, that means a class comprised of passionate, balanced and diversified professionals, who are, individually and collectively, the best and brightest leaders in their field and represent all segments of the music industry across the country.  We are fond of saying at Leadership Music, the class you are in is the class you were meant to be in.”

Dave Cobb chatted with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Peter Cooper last Saturday (Jan. 28) as part of the museum’s Music Masters series. The in-depth interview covered a range of topics including Cobb’s groundbreaking work with artists Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton, and more. The Music Masters series features revealing conversations with music industry producers, publicists, engineers, A&R staff, and business executives. Previous subjects include Jimmy Bowen, Mark Bright, Garth Fundis, Frank Liddell, Bob Neuwirth, Jim Rooney, Keith Stegall and Jeff Stevens.

Country trio Temecula Road,  comprised of sisters Emma and Maddie Salute and longtime friend Dawson Anderson, has signed with Buena Vista Records and will release their first single, “What If I Kissed You” Feb. 17. The song was written by Jimmy Robbins, Sara Haze and Mike Daly and produced by Daly. The group has been chosen as Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing, one of only two breakout country artists chosen since the program’s inception.

Ryman Hospitality Properties is looking at reviving Hee Haw, the comedy/variety show that ran from 1969-1992 after finding success with its Nashville TV show, according to the Nashville Business Journal.

Ryman CEO Colin Reed told the audience at the Nashville Business Journal’s Inside the C-Suite event Monday that his company has been looking at resurrecting the show since “Nashville” has driven so much tourism into the city.

“We think humor around country [music] is a good thing. … We want to be in the content-distribution business and communicate country music and humor to people who don’t see this stuff,” Reed said.
