Spotify Now Valued At Over $4 Billion

spotify225Music streaming company Spotify has reportedly secured $250 million in new financing, helping move the company to the four billion valuation mark, according to the Wall St. Journal. The start-up previously raised $100 million nearly a year ago, then placing it at a $3 billion valuation.
Spotify is reported to have doubled its revenues year-over-year in 2012 to nearly $600 million, but its net loss increased to $77 million. Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek told the L.A. Times earlier this year that his goal was to “not just convert the $24 million into buying [a subscription], but to get $1 billion using streaming services rather than a piracy service.”
The London-based company has expanded to four continents and currently reaches more than 26 million users.

Hummingbird Productions' 'It's a Wonderful Life' Sequel May Halt

its a wonderful lifeParamount Pictures plans to fight production of the sequel to It’s a Wonderful Lifeaccording to NY Daily News. “No project relating to ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ can proceed without a license from Paramount,” the studio said in a statement. “To date, these individuals have not obtained any of the necessary rights, and we would take all appropriate steps to protect those rights.”
Earlier reports announced Nashville-based production company Hummingbird Productions, with Star Partners, planned to produce It’s A Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, a sequel to the 1946 holiday classic featuring James Stewart as George Bailey and Donna Reed as Mary Hatch. The sequel would feature Karolyn Grimes, who played George Bailey’s daughter in the original film.
Hummingbird Production’s president Bob Farnsworth previously told The Hollywood Reporter that the property’s rights were in the public domain.

MusicRow has reached out to Farnsworth for comment, but has not yet received a response.

'MusicRow' No. 1 Song

JakeOwenThis week, the title track from Jake Owen’s forthcoming RCA Nashville release, Days of Gold, tops our MusicRow Chart prior to next week’s (Dec. 3) of Owen’s full-length album release.
Songwriters Jaren Johnston and Neil Mason helped wet the appetite of Owen’s fans hungry for new music with the 12-track album’s first single.
From a production aspect, MusicRow recently talked with Joey Moi about his contributions to the 2013 release. Jake’s such a good singer, but we needed to brand Jake in a way. He has a special gift with his voice. The best way to answer that is for him to find those songs that accent his voice.”
And what about the music video? Owen left his 2013 Malibu Wakesetter at home for a 2014 model, which was featured in the video. But who wouldn’t want a chance to get on the lake any way you can? As Owen’s trademark become increasingly synonymous with water activities, director Mason Dixon primed fans with part one of a to-be-continued music video. The ending teases two lake-goers jumping in a raised Chevy truck, headed for Daytona Beach at dusk. Watch the “Days of Gold” music video below.
Pre-order the album at Target for four additional tracks.
