Gill and Franklin Share 'Bakersfield' With 'MusicRow' Readers
MusicRow subscribed members are receiving a musical gift courtesy of Vince Gill and Paul Franklin in the 2013 Artist Roster (Aug./Sept.) print issue.
Each copy of the 2013 Artist Roster includes a complimentary disc of Gill and Franklin’s Bakersfield. The MCA Nashville project finds the two sterling musicians paying homage to the work of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, along with musicians who made the Bakersfield sound unique including Don Rich, James Burton, Ralph Mooney, Tom Brumley and others.
“Bakersfield is a record from two guys that adore that music and these songs were the perfect vehicle to showcase the guitar and steel guitar relationship,” say Gill and Franklin in a letter included with the CD. “Buck and Merle were musicians and everything they went about was from a musician’s mindset: it was equally supportive of the people that played and sang on their records. And that is why we’re both drawn to Buck and Merle like we are.”
